How I Built My Website Using ChatGPT (and Saved Time Without Cutting Corners)
In my last post, I explained how I used AI – specifically ChatGPT – to help shape my marketing strategy using the SOSTAC model. Once I knew who I was targeting (business owner Jamie Fraser and marketer Sarah Campbell) and what I wanted to say, the next step was to build the website. The result is what you’re on now.
I used ChatGPT extensively throughout the process, although as previously mentioned you can do this with other tools too such as CoPilot, Gemini & Claude to name a few. But if you fancy trying ChatGPT, you can start your journey with them here.
It helped shape the structure, refine my positioning, and even write the brief for the developer who built the site. The time saved was significant, but what really stood out was the quality of the result. I genuinely don’t think I could have done better working job with an agency which would have taken weeks and for a significant budget.
Starting with Strategy
Because I’d already identified my key personas – Jamie and Sarah, two professionals running or working in a small businesses in Scotland – I knew what kind of tone and content would appeal to them. ChatGPT helped turn that into a clear site structure, including:
- Page layout suggestions
- CTA prompts
- Headings that felt right for my audience
- Content ideas that aligned with their needs
I also asked ChatGPT to interpret the colours in my logo, and it came back with a visual theme that’s remarkably close to what you see on the live site. It wasn’t pixel-perfect, but it gave me a design direction that felt logical and on-brand.
Writing the Brief
I worked with a WordPress freelancer to build the site, and one of the biggest benefits of using ChatGPT was in helping me write the brief. I provided context, structure and goals, and it helped me pull it all together in a way that was clear, comprehensive, and professional.
The developer said it was one of the best briefs he’d ever received. That’s a real-world example of how AI can help turn thoughts into action, and reduce miscommunication when working with suppliers. The result was that the developer was able to turn the project round very quickly because there was almost no clarification required.
Adding a Personal Touch with Video
Right at the top of the site, you’ll see a short video of me explaining what I do. It’s something I encourage clients to do too. Video content performs well, especially for small businesses where trust and personality matter. It also gave me the chance to demonstrate another service I offer – video production and editing.
So yes, the video helps explain my proposition – but it’s also a reminder that I don’t just talk about marketing. I deliver too.
A Unique Positioning with AI’s Help
My overall proposition is Experience in the Age of AI. It was developed in conversation with ChatGPT, and it perfectly captures where I sit in the market: not a techy, or an old-school strategist, but someone with senior-level marketing expertise and a working knowledge of how AI can transform productivity and creativity.
That’s a message that resonates with my target clients. Businesses that aren’t looking for hype, just help.
Final Thoughts
Using ChatGPT to support the website project didn’t just save me time – it made me sharper. It prompted new ideas, challenged a few assumptions, and kept me focused. The end result is something I’m proud to share and confident that it represents my business. And that’s how I built my website using ChatGPT.
Next time, I’ll look at how I used ChatGPT to create blog content (like this one), including how I generated the imagery and structured each post around the needs of my audience. You can check out my other blogs here.
If you’ve been wondering how AI might help you launch or refresh your own website – feel free to get in touch. I’m happy to share what worked (and what didn’t).
