How I used AI to create a targeted blog series
From strategy to output in a single morning. So that is how I used AI to create a targeted blog series.
When I decided to relaunch my website, I knew I didn’t just want to “add some blogs”. I wanted to create content that spoke directly to my audience. People like Jamie Fraser, a small business owner, and Sarah Campbell, a busy marketing manager. I’d already developed these personas, and I knew that if I wanted the content to resonate with them, it needed structure and purpose.
That’s where the AIDA model is a really useful tool.
AIDA + Personas = Strategy
AIDA stands for Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action. It’s a simple framework that maps how people move from not knowing anything about a topic to taking action. There are other similar models, but they all have the same purpose of moving people through the sales funnel.
By combining this with my two personas, I now had a plan:
-
4 blog posts for Jamie
-
4 blog posts for Sarah
-
Each one aligned to a different stage of the customer journey
This gave me both a structure and a content calendar. Eight targeted posts ready to build trust, relevance and momentum. And I hadn’t written a word yet. That’s a point worth making. AI isn’t really very effective unless you are using it to support a strategy, whether that’s operational, marketing, sales or customer support.
Writing with ChatGPT: Faster and Better
Once the structure was in place, I used ChatGPT to help write each post. But this wasn’t about asking it to “write a blog for me”. I treated it like a colleague.
Because I’d already defined the audience, tone, and intent of each post, I could brief ChatGPT effectively. The results were surprisingly strong. I was able to generate all eight drafts in less than half a day. Not just fast, but high quality and with enough personal input from me to reflect my voice. Again, knowing what you want for your business is the first step. AI can just help you run quicker.
Visuals That Match the Message
Next came images. Instead of turning to stock libraries and spending hours searching for something vaguely appropriate (and probably paying for it), I used AI image generation. There are lots of tools out there which are all improving on almost a daily basis, but as I’ve said before, getting to know one AI tool really well will allow you to make a better judgement about the alternatives as and when you decide to do so. So, I stuck with ChatGPT to generate the images for my blogs.
The difference was immediate. One standout was an image of a man working in a manufacturing setting, having a virtual conversation with a robot on his laptop. There’s no way I would have found something so specific and relevant on a stock site. Have a look at the blog where you’ll see the image at full size. It’s pretty impressive. How AI Can Help You Do More (Without Hiring More People)

Don’t get me wrong, there are still limitations. I got frustrated around text placement and layout. But that’s improving fast, and I expect to see that change soon. It’s often an iterative process, so don’t give up if the first prompt isn’t right. Just ask whatever tool you are using to make some changes. And try and be as specific as you can be with the prompt.
Productivity Gains That Matter
The entire process, from content strategy to written copy and visuals, was completed in a single morning. That’s not a boast. It’s a reflection of how powerful AI can be when it’s used with purpose.
I wasn’t using AI to replace my marketing knowledge. I was using it to accelerate and enhance what I already knew. And for a one-person business, that’s a massive shift.
Next Time…
In the next blog, I’ll explain how, in addition to how I used AI to create a targeted blog series, I’ll show you how I used AI to help schedule content, create supporting LinkedIn posts, and how I discovered something even more powerful than productivity- creativity.
In the meantime, if you would like to look at the original blog series, you can review them here. Or if you would like to chat about how AI can help your business, get in touch with me here.
I’ve also had a lot of positive feedback about the use of my digital avatar, so if you’d like a step by step guide on how to make your own, let me know.
